Growth education points






The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was set up as the National Open School in 1989
by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as an autonomous
organisation. It provides educational opportunities to persons like you who wish to study further
and qualify for a better tomorrow. The Mission of NIOS is to provide education to all with special
concern for girls and women, rural youth, working men and women, SCs and STs, differently
abled persons and other disadvantaged persons who because of one or other reason could not
continue their education in the formal system of education. NIOS has taken special initiatives for
imparting education to Jail Inmates by setting up Study Centres in Jails all over India and granting
them full fee exemption. NIOS operates through a network of Twenty Regional Centres, two Sub-
Regional Centres, One Sub-Regional Cell and more than Six thousand six hundred twenty
Accredited Institutions (AIs) and Accredited Vocational Institutions (AVIs) popularity known as
Study Centres in India, Nepal and Middle East Countries. For academic courses, admission is
through On-line only.



Features and Flexibilities in NIOS

❖ Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for admission. However, the minimum age for enrolment
is 14 years for the Secondary course and 15 years for the Senior Secondary course as per
information given in the entry requirements in Table-3.
❖ Choice in Medium of Instructions:
➤ Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil and Odia mediums at the
Secondary stage.
➤ Hindi, English, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati and Odia mediums at the Senior Secondary stage.

Choice of Subjects: Learner can choose any subject combination from the list of subjects offered

as per the criteria given in the Scheme of Studies in Table-I.

Admission Open till 31st July, 2016 without Late Fee, upto 15th August, 2016 with Late Fee of Rs. 200, upto 31st Aug., 2016 with Late Fee of Rs. 400 and upto 15th September , 2016 with Late Fee of Rs. 700)

Important Instructions
  1. There is no Agencies/Cybercafe/any other institutions recognised by NIOS for Doing Online Admission.
  2. You can take Admission yourself on the Internet without involving any middle man and without paying any extra amount to such middle man. You can take up help of your friends or family members in filling the online application form. You may visit your nearest Accredited Institution (AI) (Study Centre)/ CSC (Common Service Centre)/Facilitation centre or NIOS Regional Centre for Online Registration.
  3. The Study Material will be delivered to you at your address provided by you during the Registration free of cost. Do not accept any VPP Parcel from anybody.
Note : However a Learner can also take Offline Admission in Stream 1 by filling up the Offline Admission form and submitting it to its nearest Study Centre (AI) or to respective Regional Centre.
